TIME OF UNCERTAIN CONVERSATIONS: RELIGIOUS EDUCATION IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS OF THE POST-SOVIET LATVIA

Abstract This article describes the development of religious education within the system of public education in Latvia. It consists of three parts. The first part deals with the social context of a post-Soviet society and its impact on the development of religious education. The second part describes the four approaches to religious education in public schools that have emerged in Latvia during the last ten years: the confessional approach, the ecumenical Christian approach, the world religions approach, and the Christian ethics approach. The third part analyzes the problems and opportunities presented by the current stage of plurality of approaches.

Făgăraș as Jerusalem? Interethnic and interreligious ethos in Transylvania

The study presents Transylvania as a space of ethnic-religious tolerance, having as a case studythe image of the town Făgăraș, as depicted in Eginald Schlattner’s novels. This space appearsas one of a heavenly nuance, based on a long tradition of coexistence of the members ofdifferent ethnic groups and religions. However, the inter-war and post-war period means theemergence of new challenges posed by the confrontation with the harmful effects of the twoideologies: Nazism and Communism. In this way, the dramas of the socio-historical contextinterweave with elements forming young Eginald. Los Ethicorum Libri III del ilustrado valenciano Mariano Madramany y Calatayud: edición crítica, traducción y notas

Esta tesis doctoral consiste en una edición crítica de los Ethicorum Libri III (Valencia, 1816) escritos por el erudito valenciano Mariano Madramany y Calatayud, acompañada de una traducción al español y de notas explicativas. En la introducción se da detallada cuenta de la biografía de Madramany a partir de la consulta de la documentación de archivos, y se repasa el conjunto de su producción escrita, prestando especial atención a los contenidos, las estructuras y las fuentes de los Ethicorum. El doctorando establece las principales fuentes de los Ethicorum Libri III, a saber, santo Tomás de Aquino, el Catecismo Romano y la Theologia Moralis de Alfonso de Ligorio.
